New Friends

On Friday night, I was blessed to spend time with two of my favorite bloggers... Southern Girl (left) and Shalee (center).
Shalee was travelling through Memphis on a trip with "Mr. Right" to celebrate their 15th wedding anniversary and asked to spend an evening with Southern Girl and I. (Needless to say, I was very excited!)

So...Dan, Ainsley and I hosted dinner for Southern Girl and her mom, Shalee and "Mr. Right", and our good friends...William, Robin and Courtney. (William and Shalee have known each other for many years.)

Shalee is just like you might imagine from her blog. She is friendly, kind, helpful, and funny! There are so many connections in our lives...we went to the same college and we have several mutual friends.

Southern Girl has the sweetest spirit. She was so kind to give me this beautiful, handcrafted cross.
We all had a wonderful evening together. We ate yummy fried chicken from Gus', baked beans, slaw and biscuits...and for dessert...a very good cherry torte that Southern Girl brought.
After dinner, we played a new game that Shalee and "Mr. Right" graciously gave to us.

If you have never played "SWAP!", go buy it now! It was so much fun and we laughed...a LOT! (Dan and I are definitely introducing this game to our extended family who love to play games.)
It was great meeting Shalee and Southern Girl! I am so blessed to have them as new friends.

Feasting again!

Appetizer~Describe a toy you remember from your childhood.
My favorite toy from my childhood was my Easy Bake Oven. I can still remember the first food I baked in it. (chocolate cake)

Soup~ On a scale of 1 to 10 (with 10 being highest) how observant are you?
I would have to say a "9". Being a mom, I have to be observant most of the time.

Salad ~ Where would you rather be at this very moment?
Sitting in Wrigley Field, eating a hotdog and watching my beloved Cubbies play baseball!

Main Course~When was the last time you learned something new?
I learn something "new" everyday from Ainsley.

Dessert ~ Fill in the blank: I have ____________ but I haven’t ____________.
I have TO START EXERCISING but I haven't GOT THE MOTIVATION TO DO IT!

Guess Who's Coming to Dinner Friday?

Shalee and Southern Girl!

Shalee contacted me several months ago to ask if she could meet up with Southern Girl and I while she was travelling through Memphis on her anniversary trip.

Me??!! THE Shalee...of Shalee's Diner...wants to meet...me????

Of course I said "YES!"

I have never personally met Shalee or Southern Girl but I feel like I already know them through their blogs. I can't wait to meet them face to face! (Southern Girl lives here in Memphis, too, so it will be good to finally meet her.)

Also joining us...our friends, William and Robin. Shalee and William grew up together here in Memphis and haven't seen each other in several years. I am sure their reunion will be a happy one. (It's such a small world!)

Ainsley has been having fun in her new swimming pool.
We are outside almost everyday so she can splash around.
What a great way for her to stay cool!

"The Magi's Gift"

Ainsley's great grandmother's recipe for pancakes (I call them "puffy pancakes"!)

It's good to be back!

It's so nice to return to my little corner of the web! (Thank you for checking back in with me.) Here's what I've been up to:

1) Moving - Our move went very well. We hired professional movers to move our furniture and they did a great job. Our furniture arrived with no damages...AND...there were no "dings" on the walls of our new house from moving in. As far as our boxes and odds and ends, several friends from our church helped us move those. (with temps in the 90's and high humidity) We are so blessed by their friendship!

2) Hosting Ainsley's Ma and Pa - Ainsley's Ma and Pa were our first guests. They stayed with us for five days. While here, they spent a lot of quality time with Ainsley and time helping make our house a home. (hanging towel racks, toilet paper holders, etc.)

While they were here, we attended an NBA Draft Party at Fed Ex Forum to see who the Grizzlies' pick would be. With the fourth pick in the 2007 NBA Draft, they chose Mike Conley, Jr. from Ohio State. (I've been watching a little bit of Summer League action and he looks like he is going to be a great addition to the Griz.)

We also attended a concert of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square. The music was BEAUTIFUL! My favorite moment of the program was when they performed "God Bless America". Amazing!

3) Celebrated Independence Day - 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays. Our good friends, Tom and Kathy, hosted a cookout at their house. They were great hosts and we had a wonderful view of their neighborhood fireworks display.

4) Watching baseball - Our Cubbies have really turned it around and are only 4.5 games back. We did watch a little bit of the All-Star Game but were disappointed (AGAIN) to see the National League lose. (I think it has been 11 years since the NL actually won the game.) One piece of news that I am very excited about is that Mark Cuban, the owner of the Dallas Mavericks, has submitted an application to buy the Cubs. (yay!)

5) Enjoying time with Ainsley - I am so excited that we are done with our move so I can spend more time with Ainsley. The two weeks up to and the two weeks after our move were CRAZY and Ainsley spent a lot of time entertaining herself or watching TV. Now that we are settled, we are back to our normal routine of playing games, reading books, swimming in Ainsley's new pool, doing art, making music, and playing outside. (ahhhhh...this is the life)

All in all, we are so blessed to be in our house and away from the hustle and bustle of Memphis.

Well...I'm off to catch up on all of my favorite blogs.

(oh...by the way...I will be posting photos soon. I am using a different computer right now and can't upload photos correctly.)
