On Tuesday, my friend Melanie and I took Ainsley and Melanie's children ~ Samantha and Jackson ~ to a "fire safety" storytime at a local bookstore.A firefighter was on hand to read a story,
show what firefighters wear
and show how to call "911".
The firefighter also let the children try on firefighter's gear
and also told the children what to do if there is a fire.
Here is what Ainsley remembers about fire safety:
1) If your clothes catch on fire: stop, drop, cover your face and roll!
2) If the doorknob is hot, climb out the window.
3) Smoke detectors sound an alarm when there is a fire.
4) If a fireman is trying to find you, don't hide. Yell "I'm over here!"
5) Firefighters wear heavy gear.
6) Call "911" if there is a fire.
7) Firefighters are our friends.
(I love that she remembered that last one!)
